2019 W.A Downhill State Series dates released!

Below are the dates & locations for this years 2019 State Series & Club events, these races are additional to the Summer Series already announced. You will notice there are more events added than we had last year, with the extra addition of the Summer Series the year will be jam packed with events!

For the State Series events we have tried to prioritise the more challenging tracks & also aimed for as many fully shuttled rounds aspossible.

We are currently working on getting some riders from over east to attend one or more events for the 2019 season to bring some more fresh competition.

2019 will see the introduction of several new venues & tracks.
* Linga Longa are building a Downhill specific track being
designed by Sam Hill, this will feature in State Round 6.
* A new track is being constructed at Yarloop.
* State Round 5 location to be announced at a later date.
* State Champs move to Nannup for 2019.
* Return of Club Rounds with a Dwellingup Super D
format.
* Walshy Cup charity event location to be announced at a
later date.

The season will start at Nannup on a different track to last years round, State Champs will be on the track we ran last year.

We will also be announcing some other events such as:
* Shuttle days
* Coaching clinics
* Come & try days

The club is busy working in the background on new tracks at Dwellingup & Wellington Mill and we also have other clubs working on new DH locations for the 2020 season!

The official Calendar / Poster will be released shortly with a string of new club sponsors which is great to see!

Please note as our club is a not-for-profit organisation, any money made from these events will be going straight back into trail maintenance, track building & future events so, if you want to see more DH in W.A it is vital people support these events!

More info to come in the following weeks.

Name: Sarah Booth
Bio: Sarah began riding BMX bikes around the age of 9 competing at her local track in Albany, WA. When she was about 12yrs, she began racing road in local criteriums, time trials and road races around the state. Sarah was selected in the WA Junior Road team in 1993 and won many races as a junior racing against women in the open categories. Sarah was also part of a powerful trio triathlon team which she and two friends had formed through school, winning many inter-schools events.

In 1995 Sarah discovered MTBing! She was on a bike tour which had a MTB option to ride between towns off-road and immediately fell in love with dirt! From here she took part in a team marathon race putting in a strong performance in the MTB leg which helped secure a 3rd place for the team overall. From here she began racing XC before discovering the exhilarating sport of DH. From 1996 until 2000, she was the WA DH Elite women’s champion, before moving interstate to Adelaide. Again, she continued her dominance in DH winning many races locally, crowned state champion 2001-2007 and constantly in the top 5 Elite Women in the National MTBA competitions since 2000. Whilst living in NSW, she flew to VIC regularly to compete in the Victorian DH Series winning the series in 2014 & 2016. She has also been a regular podium placer in the NSW/ACT competitions, winning the series in 2014.

Sarah has competed in the UCI World Cup Championships (2006 NZ – 26th/ 2009 Canberra, ACT – 21st & 2014 Cairns, QLD – 19th) in Pro Women. She has competed in the infamous Mega Avalanche race held in Alp Duez, France coming in 12th in the 2015 event. Sarah is now starting to focus on Enduro style racing which utilises her experience in DH and technical riding along with her endurance fitness. She competed in the round 2 of the EWS Series held in Derby, Tasmania in 2017 coming in 26th in very tough racing conditions. Sarah also competed in the inaugural Urban DH race in Albany, WA in 2014 and was the only female to race against a strong field of men, finishing 10th overall.

Sarah has been coaching others since early 2001 and enjoys seeing others gain confidence, build on their skills to push their boundaries and develop not only their skills but also friendships. “I love teaching people who have limited themselves (previously) by thinking can’t, can’t, can’t. Changing the way you look at a situation, looking at what CAN you do and breaking it down into progressive steps. This really opens their eyes to the endless possibilities and keeps that forward progression of skills…and fun!!” Sarah has been involved in coaching for the Women On Wheels skills camps, the Sports Camps Australia “SCA” kids bike skills camps and HMBA run Social & Skills Ride days since 2014. She holds a current MTB coaching accreditation from the internationally recognised Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association (PMBIA) and with MTBA as a Level 0 coach. She also has a certificate in Wilderness First Aid, Provide First Aid and a Working With Children (WWC) clearance.
